Hamster Film kicks off with SPUTNIK (WT)
Hamster Film, a joint venture between Filmhouse Germany AG and Dutch production company Lemming Film enters the market with its first feature film project. Founded by Leontine Petit, Joost de Vries and Dorothe Beinemeier, Hamster Film debuts with SPUTNIK (WT), a family film which is currently shot in Saxony-Anhalt. SPUNTIK (WT) is a humorously told story about the “true” events of the German reunification in 1989 seen from a child's perspective.
Scriptwriter and director Markus Dietrich uses parts of his own life for his first feature film. The story centres around the young girl Frederike and her friends who build a teleportation-device to beam her beloved uncle Mike back to the GDR, but accidentally beam all their townspeople into the West instead. Renowned German actors such as Yvonne Catterfeld, Devid Striesow, Maxim Mehmet and Andreas Schmidt are cast for leading roles.
Hamster Film aims to establish a new quality brand in the children- and family entertainment segment. The projects of the German Dutch company will respond to the perception of children and youth, are culturally rooted in Germany, entertaining and never lecturing. Hamster Film endeavours to develop original scripts in addition to bestseller-based adaptations for accurately defined age groups and with decidedly smaller budgets.
Leontine Petit, CCO of Hamster Film about SPUTNIK (WT): “I'm extremely excited that especially Sputnik is our first Hamster Film production. This production contains our three key values; quality, entertainment and the power of imagination!”
Producer Dorothe Beinemeier: “As our affiliate Lemming Film has proven many times in the Netherlands, especially original materials need a unique selling point. When there is a hook like a special historical event – as it is the case with SPUTNIK (WT) – the foundation of a successful marketing campaign has been laid”.
SPUTNIK (WT) is a production of Ostlich Filmproduktion and Hamster Film, in co-production with A Private View from Belgium and Negative Film Productions from the Czech Republic, as well as MDR and NDR, and is realized with funding from Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein (FFHSH), Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF), Eurimages and the Czech Film Fund. SPUTNIK (WT) is going to open in German cinemas in autumn 2013.
